Cassis

We visited Cassis with the group our second weekend in Aix.  It was a beautiful place and not completely overrun with tourists as it was the end of the season.  When we first arrived we had a boat tour along the coast, which was gorgeous.  We went into some inlets in the cliffs (called Les Calanques in French) where we discovered these beautiful white beaches that were wonderfully isolated.  It seemed the only way to reach them was by kayak or hiking, which I definitely want return to do when it gets warmer in the spring, but which we did not have time for after the boat tour.  Instead we spent the afternoon at beach in town, which was still beautiful.  Instead of sand there were small round rocks, completely smooth from being tumbled in the waves.  It was wonderful to swim in the ocean, and quite warm considering it was nearly October and in comparison to the frigid Atlantic at home.  A few of us went in topless after seeing many other French women doing it (although it seemed to be only the older, saggy titted women).  Far from being shocked by it, Madame found it quite amusing, as did her son.
